Head over to the Christmas food market to sample traditional Christmas foods from our region, served up by a range of federations. Explore the magical world of bredele, including butterbredele, schwoewebredele, zimtsterne, makrone, anisbredele and anisschnitte – exotic names that will impress you even more once you’ve tried them for yourself!

The market also holds permanent events and tastings through the festive period. Sample Christmas beers from Les Brasseries Artisanales d’Alsace or, if food’s your thing, watch a Christmas spiced bread baking demonstration before trying some yourself.

THE CHRISTMAS TREE

The vast Christmas Tree – the 30-metre-tall centrepiece at the heart of the city – is the iconic symbol of Strasbourg, Capital of Christmas. Each and every year, locals and visitors alike flock to the square to see the lights switched on for the first time. Place Kléber is transformed into an enchanting, twinkling landscape, with illuminated white snowflakes enveloping the square and instantly evoking the magic of Christmas.
